State Lawmakers Passed 10 Bills in Three Day Special Session
The State Legislature met from 11.30.2020 until 12.2.2020 in their 3 day session. The focus was on COVID relief. The primary bill of note that passed is SB20B-002: Concerning Temporary Assistance for Individuals who are facing a financial hardship due to COVID-19 Pandemic et al. Essentially it gives an additional $54 million to the housing development grant fund for emergency housing assistance. It includes both rental and mortgage payment assistance. They may use up to three percent of the funds for admin costs. The funds must be used by June 30, 2021. It also creates an Emergency Direct Assistance Grant Program to be run by DOLA with $5 million available. It is for second-order effects of the pandemic that are ineligible for other types of assistance. DOLA will promulgate rules. It also gives an additional $1 million to the eviction legal defense fund.
